On a Mission

Last year around this time I went on a mission trip to Nicaragua. We were going to the House of Hope to help women learn new skills. We had teams teaching the women about batik, doing manicures, sewing, and making clay beads. Those women were once working as prostitutes in the streets of Managua. The House of Hope rescued little girls as young as 6 years old from brothels, where relatives sold them for a couple of dollars. Like in all poor countries, corruption and the disrespect of human life becomes inevitable.

So empowering women to make a better life for themselves and their families becomes even more important. This is why this was by far my most favorite mission trip. Those women were so eager to learn and in the end they were proud of all the things they had accomplished. It was hard to leave. I felt our work wasn’t quite done yet. But my hope for all of these women is that that they got a glimpse of hope that they could do things they never imagined.
